How to Make World-Class Pasta at Home

Pasta is a staple food in Italy. It's made from semolina flour and water, and it can be served with a variety of sauces. Making pasta dough is not difficult at all, but it does take time.

The cooking process varies depending on what type of pasta you're making - dry or fresh pasta - but they both require boiling water. Dry pasta should be boiled in salted water for about 8-10 minutes while fresh pasta should be boiled for about 2-3 minutes less than that.

What Are the Different Types of Pasta?

  • 1) Elbow pasta - Made from semolina dough that has been cut in half and extruded through a die with round bends in the middle. Elbows are typically formed by joining four short pieces of dough.
  • 2) Linguine - This pasta is made from sheets ( flat strips) of dough that are extruded through a die with round bends in the middle. The product is then cut on the straight or diagonal, creating long spirals. It’s long, smooth strands can be twisted into neat coils that are typically used in pasta salads and sauces.
  • 3) Strozzapreti - This traditional shape from Apulia is created by cutting a rolled dough sheet into two equal halves before they are pressed together (the ends will meet). One half is then pulled in one direction, and the other in the opposite direction, to create a spiral shape. The ends are then sealed together and baked to create a tube of pasta.
  • 4) Tagliatelle - This traditional shape from Liguria is created by cutting a rolled dough sheet into three equal strips and then cutting the resulting pieces in half. The resulting shapes are then arranged on top of each other to create a spiral shape. The ends are connected and the dough is pulled to create a tube of pasta
